How to Get Your Small Business Found Online
Being “findable” isn't one magic trick. It's a handful of foundations that work together so the right people can discover you, trust you, and reach out. Here's where to start.

Start with your Google Business Profile
For local businesses, your Google Business Profile is often the first thing people see — before your website. It's free, and it shows up in Google Search and Maps.
- Claim and verify your profile.
- Choose the most accurate primary category.
- Add real hours, service areas, and contact details.
- Upload real photos of your work, space, or products.
- Ask happy customers for reviews, and reply to them.
Make your website easy to understand
Search engines and people both need to quickly understand what you do, who you do it for, and where. Vague headlines like “Welcome to our website” don't help anyone.
Give each main service its own page
A page dedicated to each core service gives you room to explain it clearly and gives search engines a focused page to show for related searches.
Write titles and descriptions on purpose
Every page should have a unique title and meta description that describe the page in plain language. This is what appears in search results, so it's also your first pitch.
Keep your information consistent
Your business name, address, and phone number should match everywhere they appear — your website, Google, Facebook, directories. Inconsistencies create confusion for customers and search engines alike.
Make it fast and mobile-friendly
Most local searches happen on phones. If your site loads slowly or is hard to tap through, people leave. Compress images, keep pages focused, and test your site on your own phone regularly.
Measure what matters
Free tools like Google Search Console and Google Analytics show how people find you and what they do next. You don't need to watch them daily — a monthly check-in is plenty to spot trends.
Remember: visibility builds over time. Nobody can honestly guarantee rankings, but solid foundations give you the best chance of being found by the people you want to reach.
